Communities of Shalom needs your help to fund this intiative and provide critical skills to Musac, Haiti residents.
Our current funding goal is: $5,100.00
Communities of Shalom is committed to a long-term sustainabile partnership with local groups and organizations in Musac, Haiti. Our partnership with Haitian Artisans for Peace International (HAPI) is a grass-roots effort providing support to the citizens of the rural community of Musac as they develop local resources to fight poverty, provide health care, empower women, and teach the values of peace and cooperation to their children.
Community development is a key component in strategic planning, and geographic information systems (GIS) technology is a powerful tool being used all over the world to analyze local resources and create effective, efficeint community development. HAPI has asked for help learning about and using GIS to create community maps to plan and develop their resources. Krista White, GIS Support Specialist at Drew University, and Annie Allen, Shalom Coordinator for Training, have developed a curriculum to teach one or two local Musac residents best practices for collecting GIS data in the field, data management, project management, and use of GPS units and GIS technology.
